Dust and allergens blowing around your home?

Your air ducts serve as vital pathways that deliver warm and cool air throughout your home during the year. While they may be unseen, your air ducts are working nearly year round, whenever you have your air conditioner or furnace running. Attached to your HVAC system, air ducts transfer the air from these systems throughout your home. What many homeowners don’t realize, though, is that your air ducts, in nearly constant use, continually accumulate dust, grime, debris, pet dander and allergens throughout the year.

Simply living in your home creates dust and dirt. Have you ever seen dust floating in the air in your home when the sun shines in? That dust, dirt, pet dander and those allergens get pulled into the air handling system in your home. It builds up in the ductwork, some of it get recirculated back into your home and some of it is captured by the air filter if the one you use is of a good quality. Eventually enough builds up to the point where more of it blows back into your home. Your furnace or air conditioner must run longer to cool or heat your home which costs you more in utility bills and your vents will start to show signs of build up. With a service call from Long and Son Air Duct Cleaning you can feel comfortable in knowing that that accumulation has been cleaned from your HVAC duct system.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Avoid longer dryer time and fire hazards. Dryer vents clog when enough lint accumulates in your ventilation system to cause a blockage. Dryer vents can clog in a variety of ways including; bends, dents, screens, particle size and more. Clogged dryer vents commonly cause longer drying times and may lead to fire hazard if not cleaned regularly. We offer this service complimentary with a full home air duct cleaning but can also be done as a stand alone service as well.

The most common design (Trunk Line Layout) is provided in the illustration at left. This type of system incorporates the use of a “Trunk Line” or series of Rectangular Ducts that act as a main supply channel throughout the house. From these “Trunk Lines” come branch ducts (usually round) that extend, in various ways, to the registers which are strategically placed throughout the home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the health benefits of an air duct cleaning?2026-02-16T16:37:53-06:00

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health, such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust. The removal of such contaminants from the air duct system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve indoor air quality.

Can air duct cleaning lower energy bills?2026-02-16T16:38:27-06:00

Research by the U.S. EPA has demonstrated that air duct cleaning may allow systems to run more efficiently by removing debris from sensitive mechanical components. Clean, efficient systems have a longer life span, are less likely to break down, and generally operate more effectively than dirty systems.

How long does it take to clean a home HVAC system?2026-02-16T16:39:06-06:00

The amount of time it takes to clean a residential HVAC system depends on many variables such as the size of the home, the number of systems, the extent of the contamination and the number of HVAC cleaners performing the job. Ask at least two contractors to inspect your system and give you a time estimate for your particular system. This will give you a general idea of how long the job should take as well as an idea of how thoroughly the contractor plans to do the job.

How often should air ducts systems be cleaned?2026-02-16T16:41:58-06:00

Long and Son recommends regular Air Duct Cleaning for a residential home or business every 2-5 years, with air handler cleaning every year. These recommendations depend on the size of the HVAC system, age of the home and system, the amount of people and pets living in the space and whether occupants suffer from asthma or allergies. For older homes, homes with pets, or occupants with asthma or allergies, you should consider more frequent cleaning intervals.

Will there be dust in my home after cleaning is completed?2026-02-16T16:44:58-06:00

No. Absolutely no dust will be left in the house after our technicians leave. Because of the powerful negative pressure generated during the service, the HEPA filter collects the dust rather than it being blown back into the house.

How can I determine how many trunks are in my system?2026-02-16T16:47:41-06:00
To determine the number of trunks in an air duct system, visually inspect the area directly above or near your furnace/air handler. Trunks are the largest, main supply ducts (often rectangular) that extend from the equipment, with smaller branch ducts (often round) connecting to them to deliver air to individual rooms.
Will air duct cleaning service harm or damage my hvac systems?2026-02-16T16:54:06-06:00

Not at all. Our NADCA-certified technicians use specialized tools and techniques to safely clean your ducts without harming your HVAC system.

What is the process of Air Duct Cleaning?2026-02-16T16:54:36-06:00

The air duct cleaning process begins with setting up the job, bringing in the HEPA-filtered equipment and protecting the floors and furniture with drop cloths. The HVAC system will be accessed through registers and access holes, starting from the furthest point on the supply side, agitating the debris toward the main trunk line. Then the same goes on the return side, usually the dirtiest side of the system. Lastly, the air handler, blower and indoor coil are cleaned and new filters are installed before the HVAC system is powered back on.
